Happy New Comics Wednesday - Dec. 10th Afterlife With Archie #7 (!!), Bitch Planet, Sex Criminals edition!!

AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE - how we've missed you!! Please don't take so long for your next issue, but thank you Roberto & Francesco for another FANTASTIC issue!! This week's Walking Dead is a really big moving the story forward issue too! Big week for Jim Lee art lovers - two collected editions, Divine Right and Superman Unchained!
Frank Cho draws this week's Guardians of the Galaxy annual! The first issue (#7) of the last arc of Axis is out and these three issues are drawn by Adam Kubert!
I have 18 slots on my spotlight up at the front counter here at Alternate Reality Comics, how is it possible that the third chapter of Spider-Verse in this week's Amazing Spider-Man doesn't get a slot!? Probably because this big fun crazy story sells itself, but having just finished reading said comic, it continues the craziness this storyline has brought since it started!

Mark your calendars NOW for February 2015, that's the release date for Scott MCloud's FANTASTIC The Sculptor!!

This past Tuesday, I won the lottery by getting an advance copy of Scott McCloud's new graphic novel, The Sculptor, in the mail from publisher, First Second (thanks Gina Gagliano!)! It took everything within me to not drop everything I was doing an read this immediately. But as The Sculptor is 500 pages long and one of my most anticipated upcoming graphic novels (it doesn't come out until February!), I wanted to really savor it and give it the attention I'm sure it deserved. So yesterday afternoon I finally had a good block of time to devote to reading The Sculptor and I'm going to put on TWELVE hype hats and tell everyone who loves sequential art that The Sculptor gets my ABSOLUTE highest recommendations!! Scott McCloud is most known for his excellent Understanding Comics and his much beloved Zot!, and he's been working on The Sculptor for years. The Sculptor is about a struggling sculptor who is trying to get his breakthrough. Scott McCloud has poured all of his considerable artistic chops into The Sculptor, hell even if the story wasn't as fantastic as it is, it would be worth picking up just on the strength of the art on display. But the narrative and characters in The Sculptor are so perfectly developed, with intrigue, humor, and action of the highest order. The Sculptor also has great musings on love and death, time, friendship, and the meaning of art. Seriously, the only negative thing I have to say about The Sculptor is that it's not on sale until February so I have to wait until then to share this FANTASTIC , PERFECT graphic novel with you all! Alternate Reality Comics will have a HUGE PARTY in early February to celebrate the release of The Sculptor! Thank you, Scott McCloud for creating such a marvelous book!

Happy New Comics Wednesday! 10/22/14 - Multiversity, Superman, Walking Dead edition!

I'm going to let all of this week's gorgeous new releases speak for themselves because I'm still catching up with "chores" from being out of town all of last week. And I still have just about all of last weeks comics to read! I did read Edge of Spiderverse #5 this morning and it was a great story of a new Spidey character written by My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way - we still have copies left, but I expect to sell out soon as word of mouth gets around on this!
I missed all of you New Comic Wednesday (and Thursday, Friday, Saturday, etc. - grin) new comic friends while I was gone, so I'm looking forward to seeing you all!
And how about the first two episodes of this season's Walking Dead!?

Bumperhead; Gilbert Hernandez

Bumperhead is Love and Rockets creator, Gilbert Hernandez's follow up to Marble Season, with Marble Season being a look at the world from kids' perspective and Bumperhead being a teenager's perspective of the world. Bumperhead and Marble Season can both be read independently of each other though (they don't follow the same characters as Gilbert's Love and Rockets stories do).
Bumperhead's title comes from the derogatory nickname that some of the other kids / teenagers call the central character, Bobby, because his forehead looks like it has a big bump on it.

Bumperhead takes place largely in the 1970s and this graphic novel will especially resonate with readers who grew up during that decade (especially in regards to glam and progressive rock and the emergence of pink music), but this will speak to anyone who grew up feeling alienated amongst your peers, dealing with difficult home environments, and first crushes.

Happy New Comics Wednesday 10/1/14 - NEW Thor, New Bucky (with Marcos Rudy art!), NEW Jason Aaron series, Men of Wrath, 3rd Death of Wolverine, & A MUST SEE Artist Spotlight Opening Reception tonight!!

We should have the entire shipment processed as close as possible at 11am Wednesday (we didn't get our shipment on Tuesday as we were supposed to - arrrgggh!) - call first if you were going to come earlier! Details of our BIG, exciting, Artist Spotlight Opening Reception below!

Wolverine in one issue closer to dying!!
Thor is now a woman, no there wasn't a sex change (grin)! Who is this new character!?
A whole new status quo for Bucky that was set up at the end of Original Sin #8 (I'm going to guess that you can jump onto this first issue even if you haven't read that though)! Can't wait to salivate over Marco Rudy's art!
Miracleman #1-10 were great, taking the superhero concept to an entirely new level, but it's this third book of Miracleman issues #11- #16, GORGEOUSLY illustrated by John Totleben, that really made Miracleman the seminal comic it is! Can't wait to see the new colors on Totleben's art!
If you're looking for another Southern Bastards hard edged comic written by Jason Aaron, I'm sure his new creator owned, Men of Wrath (illustrated by Ron Garney) will be your ticket!
Walking Dead! Will we find out about.... (I'm not going to say, because firstly I haven't read this issue yet, and secondly, I don't want to spoil what we may find out about in this issue)!

Here's details about tonight's Artist Spotlight Opening Reception!:

Alternate Reality Comics is happy to announce that our October Artist Spotlight is FANTASTIC local artist, James Bousema! Opening Reception is Wednesday, Oct. 1st from 5-8pm! We hope a lot of you can make it and lavish ego strokes to James Bousema in person regarding how awesome his art is! complimentary snacks, beverages, and wine will also be part of the opening!

James Bousema, has been creating art all of his life. An artist with the heart of a geek, James has never been afraid to put his influences into his work whether they stem from Saturday morning cartoons, comic books, or ancient mythology. He graduated the University of Nevada Las Vegas as a Drawing and Painting major in the Spring of 2013 and currently works as a Graphic Designer / Illustrator and Freelance Artist.

Please spread the word and bring your friends and neighbors for great local art and a great time!
