Free Comic Book Day!

This Saturday, May 3rd, is the seventh annual nationwide Free Comic Book Day. Free Comic Book Day was created by Joe Field of Flying Color Comics in Concord, California and has since become the industry wide annual event the first Saturday of every May to promote and celebrate the joys of comics and reading.

With the now semi regular big blockbuster superhero comic book movies and other movies adapted from graphic novels such as V For Vendetta, Persepolis, and Road To Perdition, more and more people are becoming aware that comic books are still a very rich, diverse source of entertainment and enlightment. But in some ways, the comic book medium is still the red-headed stepchild (not that there's anything wrong with red-headed stepchildren!) of the entertainment world because they aren't as available in as many stores as they once were, so Free Comic Book Day is the day in which the spotlight is thrown upon comics to entice those who are not yet aware of how wonderful comic books are. Free Comic Book Day is also a celebration and thank you for those already reading comic books and through the samplings available, maybe they'll be turned on to a new favorite comic.

Here at Alternate Reality Comics, Free Comic Day will be in full effect from 11-7pm Saturday, May 3rd. No purchase is required to get free comics (and people will get to select at least five different comics that the various companies provide), but a portion of the days sales will benefit Community Counseling Center www.cccfsn.org and as a further thank you to my wonderful customers I'll have a 20% off sales on all graphic novels and manga for that day! So wake the kids and bring the neighbors so that everyone can share the magic that is comic books!
