Harry's 40th B-Day pt.1

A good friend of mine, Harry, turned 40 yesterday and he had a huge 40th birthday bash at his house this past Saturday (as if I didn't have enough excitement with Free Comic Book Day earlier!).

Harry's B-day party was pirate themed and just about all 500 guests (well really not that many, but he had A LOT of people in his house) were dressed up in pirate garb. This is Harry, with his lovely wife Leilani (and I hope she doesn't kill me if I spelled her name wrong!).
This is Jake, their youngest son. After I took this photo I made sure that the bartender cut Jake off for the night!

Said band is The Vermin, a longtime Vegas punk band (formerly called Vermin From Venus), fronted and founded by Dirk Vermin (over on the left). On the other guiter is Rukas Rob, with Mark on drums (I hope I got his name right). Dirk's a good friend of Harry's and this is the second time Kate and I've seen The Vermin play at Harry's house (we saw them last year when they played when Harry and Leilani renewed their wedding vows).

The Vermin are a very rocking, fun, energetic band and I'd recommend going out of your way to see them whenever they next play in Vegas or elsewhere. Dirk's day job is as a fantastic tattoo artist (PussyKat Tattoo Parlour on Maryland, a block from the Maryland / Tropicana intersection). Actually Harry has many awesome tats from Dirk and Harry was the bloke who introduced me to Dirk, who did a fantastic Promethea tat on my calf a couple of years ago. In the next few months Dirk will be finishing a book he's writing on the Vegas punk scene and The Vermin will produce an accompanying CD upon its release. I'll definitely be giving people a heads up on this blog and at my store when the book and CD land so stay tuned!
